Tuning Spectral Linewidths

Quantum dots - tiny particles of matter with the capacity to emit brilliant colors - have broad applications in display and lighting technology and as biological markers. Researchers at MIT have developed a method to determine the average spectral peak width of individual quantum dots in solution. The method gives researchers a more precise understanding of the particles they have synthesized and therefore, a greater ability to fine tune production of quantum dots that produce pure colors.
